The Geology and Petroleum Department (GPD), Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment in collaboration with the Project Management Unit, Mainstreaming and Capacity Building for Sustainable Land Management in Belize Project (PIM 3409, Project ID 43949), Forest Department, funded and facilitated by the Global Environment Fund (GEF) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the pilot project; Rehabilitation of Scarred Landscapes has drafted and prepared the document contained within; the Mineral Extraction Handbook.

This practical guide describes techniques and strategies taught to farmers in the Vaca plateau.  Some of these methods are already being employed in the area. Farmers learned these methods through a series of training sessions conducted throughout 2011 so that they can contribute in the reduction of land degradation in the Vaca Reserve and surrounding areas.
